Munthalika commends China for promoting innovation in Malawi

BLANTYRE, Malawi, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- The president of the Republic of Malawi Peter Munthalika has commended the Chinese government for its continuous support in promoting different innovations in the country.

The president said this during the Malawi Broadcasting corporation (MBC) innovation awards ceremony that happened at Nsanjika Palace in Blantyre on Friday.

The president said that he appreciates the efforts that the government of the People's Republic of China is putting to support Malawi's spirit of innovation.

In his speech, the president said the awards promotes the spirit of innovation among the most hidden Malawians in the remote areas.

"Every Malawian can make a difference, even people in our village communities have great ideas in our village communities have great ideas that can make a difference in our country. Listen to people, everyone has a story to tell," He said.

For the past years MBC in partnership with the Chinese government through its embassy in the country has been honouring awardees of the yearly MBC innovation awards by offering them a one-month training within particular categories.

The Chinese government is supporting the Malawi government in agriculture, information, communication and technology, mentioning a few.

This year, all the winners will be given one month training in China through the Chinese embassy in Malawi.

This year MBC has awarded awards in agriculture, people with the disabilities innovators, small and big scale entrepreneurs, environmental innovators, art and science, sports, science and technology as well as education.

MBC is the public broadcaster in Malawi and the awards have been granted every year since 2015 in partnership with the Chinese embassy in Malawi.
