GABORONE, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- President of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi on Wednesday called on the nation to revive patriotism during the Christmas Holidays.

"It is time to re-energize our patriotic spirit and other values of nationhood," Masisi made the remarks when addressing the nation on national television.

He said the holidays are a time to reflect on the country's challenges and successes to chart a way forward, ahead of the New Year.

"We are mindful of the challenges that continue to affect humanity, such as climate change, whose impact on the lives of Batswana and the world at large is devastating," said Masisi.

The president asked people to celebrate the festive season as responsible citizens.

"Let us avoid engaging in anti-social activities ... which are not reflective of who we are but instead destroy the moral fabric of our society," he added.
