COPENHAGEN, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- In the wake of a series of high profile cases involving the embezzlement of millions of Danish Kroners by Danish public employees, the watchdog organization Transparency International Denmark issued five recommendations for politicians on Thursday.
Together with punishment being automatically more severer in cases of abuse of power, the anti-corruption advocates demand Denmark rapidly implement a new EU whistle-blower scheme agreed by EU members this October, despite having two years to do so.
It is also recommended that the state makes a greater effort to identify system errors as well as taking more responsibility for them.
Apart from very state sensitive issues, documents relating to such state fraud cases should be available for public scrutiny, said the watchdogs.
Currently, the public is denied access to the actual fraud due to disciplinary reasons or as a result of the ministerial service rule.
The need to send a clear signal that fraud cases in the public sector must be viewed with great seriousness is imperative, said Jesper Olsen, Vice President of Transparency International Denmark speaking in the Danish financial newspaper Borsen.
