PHNOM PENH, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Nine people got injured, including two in serious condition, in a vehicle clash in southern Cambodia's Kandal province, the National Police reported on Monday.

The accident occurred on Sunday evening in Kandal Stung district when a speedy Ford Ranger overtook a truck unsuccessfully and collided head-on with a Toyota Camry coming from the opposite direction.

All the victims, including five children, were aboard the Toyota Camry.

"Soon after the accident, traffic police visited the scene and concluded that the Ford Ranger's driver drove his vehicle under the influence of alcohol," the National Police said on its website.

Casualties from road traffic accidents remain high in Cambodia. In the first 10 months of 2019, a total of 1,665 people were killed and 5,212 others were injured in road crashes across the kingdom, according to a government report.
