PUL-E-ALAM, Afghanistan, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Police in eastern Afghanistan's Logar province have seized and set on fire 1,000 kg of hashish and 248 kg of henbane following a counter-narcotics operation on Monday, the Interior Ministry said.

"The police conducted a joint operation in Babus and Alozai areas on outskirts of Pul-e-Alam, capital of Logar, destroying a huge drug cache containing 1,032 kg of hashish and 248 kg henbane," the ministry said in a statement.

The police also arrested two suspects during the raid in the province, 60 km south of Kabul.

Further investigations were underway, the statement added.

The Counter-Narcotics Police of Afghanistan (CNPA) waged an anti-drug operation and destroyed over 53,000 kg hashish in Achin district of neighboring Nangarhar province last week.
