KAMPALA, Jan. 1 (Xinhua) -- Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni has said a decision will soon be made to end year-long tensions with neighboring Rwanda.

Museveni tweeted late on Tuesday that he had sent a special envoy to meet Rwandan President Paul Kagame, and that the two sides had fruitful discussions.

"Soon, the two sides will be taking decisive actions to end the tension. Uganda, I can guarantee, will do its share for the normalization of the relations between our two countries," he said.

Relations between the two central African countries became strained in February last year when Rwanda closed its main border crossing, accusing Uganda of harboring its dissidents. Uganda has denied the accusation.

The two countries have engaged in negotiations to normalize their relations. In August, Museveni and Kagame signed a memorandum of understanding in the Angolan capital of Luanda to cease hostilities.
