YANGON, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- The construction work of an airport in Myanmar's Chin state is underway by the authorities to complete in the next fiscal year 2020-2021, according to the Information Ministry on Thursday.

The Surbung Airport, being constructed in Falam township, aims to bring more tourists to the region as well as to promote the development of transportation in the far-flung mountainous Chin state.

It was learnt that the airport facilities include a fire-fighting station attached to a 18.2-meter high air traffic control tower and the structure foundation for Doppler VHF Omni-Directional Range (DVOR).

Chin state remains one of the least developed in Myanmar due to lack of proper transport and infrastructure.

The new Surbung airport will be added to the list of 69 airports in the country, in which three international airports and 31 domestic airports are in operation.
