Malaysia's industrial output up 2 pct in November last year

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's industrial production index (IPI) grew 2 percent year-on-year in November 2019, official data showed Friday.

Malaysian Statistics Department said in a statement that the growth was driven by the increase in the index of manufacturing which rose 2.5 percent, electricity and mining indices that expanded 1.6 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively.

The major sub-sectors contributing to the increase of manufacturing in November last year were transport equipment and other manufactures; non-metallic mineral products, basic metal and fabricated metal products; petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products.

The department also said in a separate statement that Malaysia's manufacturing sales rose 2.3 percent to 73.5 billion ringgit (18.03 billion U.S. dollars) in November last year as compared to a year ago.
