NEW DELHI, Jan. 10 (Xinhua) -- The China-India Youth Dialogue has been held at the Chinese embassy in New Delhi, which was attended by a group of Indian students from various streams.

This was the second such event held at the embassy. The inaugural event was held last year. The event with the theme of "Youth of China and India work hand in hand for a brighter future" began with a cake cutting ceremony on Thursday evening.

Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong gave the keynote address, in which he described it as the "first formal event" to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the China-India diplomatic ties.

"By co-hosting this event we unveil the 70 activities planned for the new year to commemorate the occasion," said the Chinese ambassador.

Chinese and Indian artists gave cultural and music performances. While the Chinese child artists performed Chinese Kung Fu, Opera, Symphony Orchestra and other songs, the Indian artists performed singing and traditional dance.

The year 2020 marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and India, and is also the China-India Year of Cultural and People-to-People Exchanges.

The delegates held discussion as to how the two countries can further strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges and cooperation in different fields. And, also, how can the two ancient civilisations take on new vitality in the 21st century and join hands together to build a community of shared future for mankind.

The event was also attended by both Indian and Chinese diplomats, including India's former foreign secretary Shashank.
