WARSAW, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- A new outbreak of bird flu was declared on Monday in Poland.

Some 6,000 geese were affected by the H5N8 bird flu virus and would be killed, authorities in Greater Poland Voivodeship, west-central Poland, announced.

Since December, several outbreaks were identified in various regions across the country, affecting turkey and chicken farms. Over 100,000 birds died or were killed to prevent the spreading of the virus.
