WASHINGTON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo discussed ties and regional issues Tuesday with visiting Japanese and South Korean foreign ministers in the state of California, said the U.S. State Department.

Pompeo talked with Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha in a trilateral meeting held in Silicon Valley, stressing cooperation, said the department in a statement released Tuesday.

Also on Tuesday, Pompeo held separate talks with the two foreign ministers. In his meeting with Motegi, they discussed an array of security concerns in the region including the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the department said in a separate statement.

The meetings came amid stalled denuclearization talks between Pyongyang and Washington, disputes over the sharing of the upkeep cost for the U.S. Forces Korea between the United States and South Korea, and souring Japan-South Korea ties over trade.
