Chinese New Year celebrated in Beverly Hills

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- A variety show featuring three increasingly interconnected municipalities and province in north China was staged in the affluent Californian city of Beverly Hills on Friday evening, to celebrate the Chinese lunar New Year.

Hundreds of Chinese and American audience gathered in a theater in Beverly Hills for the show titled "Charming Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei," featuring Chinese artists performing folk music, dances, Tai Chi, Peking opera, acrobatic and martial arts.

A photo exhibition of the capital Beijing, the municipality of Tianjin and the province of Hebei showcased the festival culture and latest developments in the region.

Addressing the show, Chinese Consul General in Los Angeles Zhang Ping said it is the ninth year the Chinese New Year celebration has been hosted in Beverly Hills, which indicated the profound friendship between the two peoples.

He expressed his wish that the Year of the Rat will bring new hopes for the two countries and two peoples.

Mayor of Beverly Hills John Mirisch said the city worked with its local and Chinese partners to bring audience the entertainment all the way from China.

Simone Friedman from local community told Xinhua it is her third time to participate in the Chinese New Year celebrations, and it is great opportunity to learn about profound Chinese culture. She said she expected to visit Beijing and Hebei for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

It is the third time that artists from Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei staged performances at Beverly Hills to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
