Former Dutch international Rensenbrink passes away

THE HAGUE, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- Former Dutch international Pieter Robert "Rob" Rensenbrink, died at the age of 72 on Friday, Dutch media report on Sunday.

In 2012, Rensenbrink was diagnosed with the muscle disease PSMA and on Friday he passed away at home in Oostzaan, in the province of North Holland.

The stylish left winger Rensenbrink played two World Cup finals with the Netherlands, losing both in 1974 against West Germany and in 1978 against Argentina. In the latter final he hit the post in injury-time, after which Argentina won the match 3-1 in extra time.

In total Rensenbrink played 46 matches for the Netherlands. He started his professional career in 1965 for DWS Amsterdam and made name in Belgium for Club Brugge and Anderlecht, with which he won the European Cup Winners Cup twice, in 1976 and 1978.
