KABUL, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- A passenger plane crashed in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Monday with dozens killed or injured, a member of provincial council Khaliqdad Akbari said to local media.

The crash took place in the Taliban-held area of Sadokhil in Deh Yak district in the afternoon, he said.

Confirming the incident, Wahidullah Kalimzai, governor of the restive Ghazni province told local media that the crashed aircraft belonged to a foreign company but failed to identify it.

The governor also noted that security forces had been sent to Sadokhil village to secure the place of the incident.

Similarly, the spokesman for Ghazni's provincial government Aref Nuri told media that the plane crash occurred at 1:10 p.m. local time on Monday in Sadokhil area of the restive Deh Yak district.

Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi has also confirmed the plane crash in the eastern Ghazni province.

Earlier reports suggested that the crashed plane belonged to Afghanistan's national carrier Ariana airlines.

Afghanistan's Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh in his speech at a gathering in Kabul said that the crashed plane belonged to the state-run Ariana airliner company.

However, Ariana's acting chief Mirwais Mirzakalwal has rejected the report, saying the Ariana had two flights on Monday and both planes reached safe and sound to their destinations.

In the meantime, no private aviation company has confirmed the plane crash, nor did the Taliban outfit report the incident in its held-territory.
