77 migrants brought to Malta

VALLETTA, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- 77 migrants rescued by the humanitarian vessel Alan Kurdi were brought to Malta on Wednesday evening.

The migrants were transferred to an Armed Forces of Malta patrol boat and disembarked at Malta army's Hay Wharf base at around 9 p.m.

None of them required medical assistance. They were taken away in police coaches to a detention center where they will be processed.

This came after an EU-wide agreement that will see the redistribution of a total of 477 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean Sea was reached.

50 migrants on board the Alan Kurdi will remain in Malta.
