JAKARTA, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo attended the 2020 National Chinese New Year Celebration in the capital's satellite city of South Tangerang on Thursday.
Wearing Chinese traditional attire, Widodo said, "I'm happy that I'm wearing this dress, while the head of the event organizing committee is wearing a Javanese traditional attire. It's a cultural exchange."
President Widodo called for promoting Indonesia's state motto of unity in diversity, saying, "We consist of more than 714 tribes with more than 1,100 regional languages. There is no other country that can exceed Indonesia's diversity."
"This is something we should be thankful for. Although we are very diverse, we are still brothers and sisters living together in Indonesia." the president added.
