DUBLIN, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- The median net wealth of Irish households in 2018 was 184,900 euros (204,000 U.S. dollars), 80.2 percent more than the 2013 figure of 102,600 euros, according to a survey released by the country's Central Statistics Office (CSO) on Thursday.

Net wealth is calculated as the value of all assets minus debt.

Residential property is a key component of the wealth of Irish households, said the CSO survey, adding that in 2018, nearly 70 percent of Irish households owned their own residence. The median value of these residential properties stood at 250,000 euros, up from 150,000 euros in 2013, a year which marked the recovery of the country's property market from the international financial crisis.

The survey found that nearly 95 percent of Irish households owned some form of financial asset, such as savings, shares, bonds, investments or voluntary pension plans. The median value of these households' financial assets was 7,900 euros in 2018, up from 6,300 euros in 2013.

The survey also found that over half (51.5 percent) of all the households in Ireland had some form of debt, such as mortgages, loans, credit cards and overdrafts. The median value of these debts was 63,000 euros in 2018, versus 42,300 euros in 2013.

In 2018, the wealthiest 10 percent of all the households in Ireland had a net wealth exceeding 835,000 euros, while the bottom 10 percent had a net wealth below 1,000 euros, said the survey.

Over two-thirds (67.6 percent) of the wealthiest 10 percent of Irish households received a substantial inheritance or gift at some point of time in the past, it said. (1 euro = 1.10 U.S. dollars)
