Afghan air raids kill 8 insurgents including 3 commanders in northern Kunduz province

KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- At least eight militants including three group commanders were killed as fighting planes struck a Taliban hideout in Dasht-e-Archi district of the northern Kunduz province on Thursday, said an army statement released here Friday.

Acting upon intelligence report, the fighting planes targeted a gathering of the Taliban fighters inside thier hideout Thursday afternoon killing eight including three group commanders namely Mullah Abdullah, Mullah Omari and Mullah Neman on the spot, the statement asserted.

Taliban militants who attacked some security checkpoints in Dasht-e-Archi district on Wednesday and killed 13 security personnel have yet to make comment.

Dasht-e-Archi district has been regarded as a Taliban hotbed in the restive Kunduz province with Kunduz city as its capital 250 km north of Kabul.
