WARSAW, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- "The visit of the President of France represents a turn in Polish-French relations, especially through the deal on strategic cooperation signed today," Polish President Andrzej Duda said on Monday at a press conference in Warsaw held after his meeting with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.
Duda was referring to a deal on strategic cooperation for the period 2020-2024 signed by the two foreign ministers on Monday.
Macron arrived in Warsaw on Monday. On his first visit to Poland, the French president held talks with Duda, also attended by the French and Polish defense and foreign affairs ministers.
"We have no doubt that the European Union (EU) will have to take a new shape, that the departure of Britain from the EU will come with a new balance and a new opening -- the roles within the EU will have to be, in a certain way, arranged anew," Duda said.
"A new era is starting after Brexit, and we have to strengthen our alliance so that we can function in an uncertain world," Macron told the press conference.
Macron said that the strategic cooperation agreement signed by the two countries on Monday covered the areas of cybersecurity, climate, energy security and economic cooperation. He said that he hoped to see a meeting of the so-called Weimar Triangle countries -- France, Germany and Poland -- taking place in the coming months.
Macron started a two-day visit to Poland on Monday.
