Tokyo stocks rise sharply in morning on Wall Street's solid overnight gains

TOKYO, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks staged a strong advance Thursday morning, with the benchmark Nikkei stock index surging more than 2 percent to a two-week high, buoyed by Wall Street's upbeat performance overnight on better-than-expected jobs data.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 483.63 points, or 2.07 percent, from Wednesday to 23,803.19.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 33.03 points, or 1.94 percent, at 1,734.86.

Oil and coal product, mining and pharmaceutical-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the morning break.
