10 Afghan children die due to respiratory disease in northern Badakhshan province

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 children have died due to respiratory problem in Yamgan district of Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province over the past one week, district governor Matihullah Samim said Thursday.

According to the official, all the victims under five years old have lost their lives due to spread of respiratory disease in parts of Yamgan district especially in Wishangan area over the past one week and more than two dozen others have been hospitalized.

Nushin, the deputy for provincial health department in provincial capital Faizabad, has confirmed the death of five children, saying a team of doctors had been sent to the area to inspect if the reason for the death of children is respiratory disease.
