DUBLIN, Feb. 6 (Xinhua) -- Europe's largest budget airline Ryanair said on Thursday that its CO2 (carbon dioxide) emissions in January stood at an average of 69 grams per passenger/km.
"Our CO2 per passenger/km is the lowest in the industry, having been cut from 82g to 66g over the last decade while other high fare competitors currently generate over 120g per passenger/km," said Kenny Jacobs, chief marketing officer of Ryanair.
Jacob attributed Ryanair's lower CO2 emission rate mainly to its relatively younger fleet and higher load factors.
Ryanair boasts a fleet of some 475 aircraft and most of them are new models sourced from Boeing, according to the company.
In January 2020, Ryanair's load factor or flight occupancy rate stood at 92 percent, said the company in a Tuesday statement.
According to Jacobs, Ryanair operated over 62,000 flights in January, which covered a total flight length of nearly 13.5 billion kilometers and carried a total number of 10.8 million passengers.
"Ryanair is Europe's greenest and cleanest major airline," said Jacobs, adding that his company is committed to reducing its CO2 emission rate to under 60g per passenger/km by 2030.
