S.Korea's domestic manufacturing supply falls in 2019

SEOUL, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's domestic supply in the manufacturing sector, including production at home and imported manufacturing products, kept falling for two straight years through 2019, statistical office data showed Friday.

The domestic manufacturing supply dipped 0.5 percent in 2019 from a year earlier, after sliding 0.8 percent in 2018, according to Statistics Korea.

Import of manufacturing products increased 1.0 percent on demand for electronic products and primary metal, but production at home declined 1.1 percent on weak demand for machinery equipment and medical precision products.

The supply of capital goods, such as machinery equipment, contracted 3.4 percent, but the consumer goods supply grew 0.8 percent last year.

The domestic supply of intermediate goods, such as industrial materials and components, shed 0.2 percent.

The portion of import to the manufacturing supply stood at 26.3 percent in 2019, up 0.5 percentage points from a year earlier.
