BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb. 11 (Xinhua) -- About 400 guests from all walks of life in Brunei attended the Open House event hosted by the Chinese embassy here to celebrate the Chinese new year on Monday and Tuesday.

Held at the residence of Chinese Ambassador to Brunei Yu Hong, the two-day event attracted senior government representatives from various ministries, members of diplomatic corps to Brunei as well as prominent members of the local Chinese community.

In Brunei, Open House is a traditional way of festive celebrations, which means opening homes to relatives, friends and even strangers and share the joy of the season with guests.

Over the years, many government and private organizations in Brunei have hosted their versions of the Open House for staff and members of the public during traditional festivals like Hari Raya and Chinese new year.

"We respect the traditions here in Brunei and we host this event to share our joy and hope for the new year with our guests", Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong said.

"In the new year, China is ready to make joint efforts with Brunei to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in various fields, further the China-Brunei strategic cooperative partnership and prepare for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Brunei in 2021", she added.
