JAKARTA, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Four new species of chafer beetle have been found in Indonesia's eastern part of North Maluku province, a scientist said on Wednesday.

The nocturnal animals were discovered in Halmahera and Obi islands, and Ternate in the province, said Raden Pramesa Narakusumo, a scientist at the Indonesian Institute of Sciences.

Narakusumo discovered the species along with Michael Balke, a scientist from Germany.

The discovery makes the number of discovered species within the epholcis genus rise to ten, and six of them were previously identified in 1957 in Australia, according to the scientist.

The scientist pointed out that Indonesia still has a huge potential of other new species to discover.
