TRIPOLI, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Indiscriminate shelling on Wednesday injured 5 civilians in Libya's capital Tripoli, the UN-backed government's forces said.

The shelling hit Al-Firnaj, a residential area in central Tripoli, the forces said, accusing the rival eastern-based army of the shelling.

"This is a new violation to the cease-fire and continuation of their criminal acts against civilians and civilian areas in the capital," the UN-backed government's forces said in a statement.

The eastern-based army has not responded to the accusation so far.

The eastern-based army has been leading a military campaign in and around the capital Tripoli since April 2019, attempting to take over the city and topple the rival UN-backed government.

The rivals agreed to cease-fire on January 12, but both parties have been exchanging accusations of breaching the truce.
