NEW YORK, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks closed higher on Wednesday as investors digested the latest quarterly corporate earnings reports.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 275.08 points, or 0.94 percent, to 29,551.42. The S&P 500 was up 21.70 points, or 0.65 percent, to 3,379.45. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 87.02 points, or 0.90 percent, to 9,725.96.
Most of the 30 Dow component companies traded higher, with UnitedHealth Group and Nike adding 4.36 percent and 2.98 percent respectively, leading the gainers.
Ten of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors traded in green territory, with energy increasing 1.36 percent, leading the advancers.
CVS Health reported fourth-quarter earnings revenue that was boosted by higher sales in its pharmacy benefit management business.
The drugstore chain registered quarterly revenue of 66.9 billion U.S. dollars and adjusted earnings per share of 1.73 dollars, both topping Wall Street's estimates.
