WINDHOEK, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Namibia is working on a national cyber security strategy to protect banks from malware attacks, officials said Tuesday.
According to Kaspersky, a multinational cyber security firm, about 2.9 percent of malware attacks globally targeted Namibian banks.
Speaking at a cyber security workshop, Elisabeth Ujarura Kamutueza, deputy director of policy and regulations in the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, said a number of cyber events hadn't been appropriately managed because there was no legal framework in place.
Anthony Ming, a technology and cyber security strategist, said most Namibians are not aware of the consequences of cyber attacks.
Ming said 80 percent of cyber-attacks can be avoided by practicing cyber hygiene.
The cyber security workshop is supported by the Commonwealth secretariat under the Commonwealth cyber declaration, which requires safe and secure cyberspace for all Commonwealth people.
