PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- The product of cement in the only cement factory of Afghanistan's northern Baghlan province has increased from 120 tons per day to 600 tons, General Director of the plant Riazudin Sharifi said Sunday.

Reforms and modernizing the spare parts of the plant have led to increase in production capacity of cement at the factory, the manager said, adding efforts are underway to further improve the capacity of the plant.

The plant produced 120 tons cement each day last year but in current year it produces 600 tons cement daily, Sharifi added.

Built 57 years ago outside the provincial capital Pul-e-Khumri, 160 km north of Kabul, the Ghori Cement Plant like other institutions had been badly damaged due to the war and civil strife.

However, the plant has been reconstructed and nowadays 850 workers and staff have been working in the factory, Sharifi said.

The government has planned to rebuild destroyed cement plants in the war-battered country.
