BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb. 23 (Xinhua) -- Over 26,000 participants put on a near-flawless performance for Brunei's 36th National Day Parade ceremony in the capital on Sunday.

In line with tradition, the parade ceremony started with the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah inspecting the guard of honour parade comprising personnel of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces and Royal Brunei Police Force, and was followed by a march-past involving 160 contingents ranging from various sectors of the armed forces, government civil servants, higher education institutions, schools, civil associations, public organizations and foreign associations at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien.

A total of 936 young participants staged the field performance, which showcased the traditional and modern musical instruments to reflect the efforts of every generation in supporting the needs of national development, upholding the independence, defending the sovereignty and achieving the nation's vision.

For the finale, 7,336 participants conducted the National Day theme performance "Realising the National Vision 2035".

Brunei declared its independence in 1984.
