PRAGUE, Feb.23 (Xinhua) -- The Czech Republic was struck by strong winds as broken branches and uprooted trees caused widespread traffic and railway disruptions in the past days, local media reported on Sunday.
Wind speeds in the Czech Republic reached between 70 and 110 kilometers per hour, and approximately 125 kilometers per hour in the mountain regions.
The coordination group, which includes heads of several department, has been reactivated on Sunday, said Deputy Prime Minister Karel Havlicek on Twitter. He added that because of timely information, the country managed the situation well during recent storms.
Train operations were halted across the country as trees fell on tracks, causing alternative bus routes to be initiated in some cases.
Strong winds also disrupted motor traffic. In Vysocina, firefighters responded to three dozen cases mainly involving trees on roads, while similar situations occurred in the South Bohemian and Pilsen regions. Central Bohemia registered about 50 incidents, according to local fire rescue service.
In Karlovy Vary region, a tree fell on a bus at a stop near a railway station, injuring two people.
