SUVA, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern arrived here on Monday night to begin a four-day visit, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties with Fiji.

During her first official visit to the island nation, Ardern will meet with Fijian President Jioji Konrote and hold talks with her Fijian counterpart Voreqe Bainimarama.

The two prime ministers' meeting is expected to focus on climate change in the Pacific region, improvement of trade balance and development of cooperation.

Ardern will also deliver a speech at the University of the South Pacific (USP).

In recent years, trade relations between Fiji and New Zealand have strengthened with Fiji being New Zealand's largest trading partner in the Pacific and New Zealand being one of Fiji's top five import markets.

The two countries have set a target to achieve a 2-billion-U.S. dollar trade relationship in the years to come.

New Zealand is also Fiji's second largest tourism source market with increases in visitor arrivals from New Zealand reaching a record high in 2018.
