COPENHAGEN, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- In the wake of Denmark's first case of COVID-19 on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry reiterated Denmark's support for China in a press release on Friday.

"Since the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19) in China became known, the Danish government, companies and people from all walks of life have taken action to support China in controlling the virus," said the statement.

According to the press release, the Danish government has offered support valued at over 400,000 U.S. dollars.

In addition, the combined material donations of many Danish Blue chip companies such as Novo Nordisk, Lego, Maersk and Danfoss have been valued at several million U.S. dollars.

The press release also acknowledged the personal messages of support from Danish artists and athletes such as badminton player and former World Champion Viktor Axelsen who recently recorded a support video in Mandarin for the Chinese people.

"Denmark stands with China to fight the spread of coronavirus. This is an international health crisis," said Rasmus Prehn, Minister of Development Cooperation in the press release.

In addition to supporting the fight against COVID-19 in China, Denmark has also donated 1.2 million U.S. dollars to the WHO Contingency Fund for Emergencies, which offers a rapid response to quell disease outbreaks and humanitarian crises with health consequences.

"It is important that Denmark takes a co-responsibility in the global response to health crises. The current situation with COVID-19 shows the importance of quick response from WHO, "said Danish Health Minister Magnus Heunicke in the press release.

Meanwhile, Soren Brostrom, the director of National Board of Health, in a press conference Friday said Danish authorities believe that the coronavirus has the potential to become even more dangerous to public health than it is today.
