Cameroon reports second case of COVID-19

YAOUNDE, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon's Ministry of Public Health confirmed on Friday the country's first and second case of COVID-19.

The first patient is a French national of 58 years old, who arrived in Yaounde on Feb. 24, according to a statement of the ministry published Friday morning.

The second case is a Cameroonian woman who was in close contact with the first patient, the ministry said Friday evening in another statement.

The two patient is now in solitary confinement in Yaounde Central Hospital for treatment. The health authorities are tracing other persons having a higher risk of being contaminated.

Cameroon is to date the fourth country in sub-Saharan Africa affected by the virus, after confirmed cases in Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. Togo also delcared its first confirmed case Friday afternoon, becoming the fifth country affected in the region.
