VIENNA, March 8 (Xinhua) -- The number of infected COVID-19 cases in Austria climbed to over 100 on Sunday, with no deaths reported, according to local health authorities.

As of Sunday morning, 104 confirmed cases have been reported, with Lower Austria reporting 36 cases, Vienna 32, Tyrol eight, Styria eight, Salzburg and Upper Austria each with seven, Burgenland four, and Vorarlberg and Carinthia each reporting one case, according to the country's health ministry.

The novel coronavirus has been detected in all nine federal states of the Alpine country. Most of the patients have mild symptoms and have been under self-quarantine at home.

The first two people that tested positive for the coronavirus in Austria were released from hospital on Thursday.

In total, 4,509 tests have been carried out across the country by Sunday morning.

Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said he does not have masks at home, according to local media.

"I follow the recommendations of the health authorities. If you have a lot of contact with people, you pay attention to normal hygiene standards anyway," Kurz told the Viennese daily Die Kronen Zeitung later on Friday.

"What I would really ask the Austrians to do is not to panic, not to do anything that makes no sense," said the chancellor.

"It is much more important not to travel to (the) affected areas. And if you have been in these areas, avoid social contact and watch closely whether you get symptoms yourself," Kurz said, suggesting those with symptoms dial a national health hotline for medical advice as opposed to visiting a doctor and possibly infecting others.
