Brunei reports 1st case of COVID-19

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 9 (Xinhua) -- Brunei reported its first case of COVID-19 on Monday, the country's Ministry of Health said.

A 53-year-old local man tested positive for the virus on Monday after returning to the sultanate on March 3 from Kuala Lumpur with three friends. The patient is currently receiving treatment at the National Quarantine Center, Tutong District.

According to the Ministry of Health, the patient developed fever on Saturday and received treatment at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, the country's biggest hospital on Sunday.

The initial test found the patient positive for COVID-19 infection. The ministry is currently waiting for the result of the verification test.

The Ministry of Health said the patient is now in good and stable condition. The ministry is tracking all contacts including family members of the patient and the three friends who participated in the trip with him.

All family members living with the patient have been given a 14-day quarantine notice.
