MOSCOW, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Eleven new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Russia in the last 24 hours, bringing the total count of COVID-19 patients to 45 in the country, official data showed Friday.

Six cases were registered in Moscow City and the Moscow Region, four in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region, and another one in the Perm Region, the country's coronavirus control and prevention task force said in a statement.

All the 11 patients, who have been isolated in hospitals, had visited Italy, France and Austria in the last two weeks, it said.

Out of the 45 patients, two Chinese nationals and one Russian national have been discharged after a complete recovery.

Earlier on Friday, St. Petersburg, Russia's second largest city, announced it would ban mass gathering of over 1,000 people from March 16 to April 30. Moscow and other major cities have already banned mass gatherings.

Starting Friday, Russia cut the number of flights to Italy, Germany, France and Spain, and banned Italian citizens and travelers from Italy from entering the country.
