ULAN BATOR, March 17 (Xinhua) -- A camel has given birth to rare twins in the western Mongolian province of Govi-Altai, the provincial government said Tuesday.

The twins, a male and a female, were born in Sharga soum last week, an administrative subdivision in Govi-Altai, the government said, adding that the newborn camels and their mother are in good health.

Mongolian herders see the birth of the baby twin camels as an auspicious sign. Mongolia is one of the last nomadic countries in the world.

As of the end of 2019, the number of the country's livestock animals surpassed 70 million and 0.7 percent of them were Bactrian camels, or two-humped camels.
