TUNIS, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Tunisian Minister of Health Abdellatif Mekki on Sunday announced the third death from the COVID-19 in the North African country.
"The case is an elderly man residing in the governorate of Tunis," the minister said in a statement carried by Tunisian local radio Shems FM, without providing further details.
"Following the lab tests conducted on his body, it was confirmed that he was infected with COVID-19," added Mekki.
The Tunisian minister said on Saturday night that there is a hotbed of the novel coronavirus in one of the regions in Tunisia, noting his ministry is working on encircling the region to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Tunisia has reported 60 COVID-19 cases in the country as of Sunday.
