ADDIS ABABA, March 22 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian government on Sunday disclosed that passengers entering the country from all corners of the world will undergo a 14-days mandatory quarantine effective on Monday as part of the latest measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
"The mandatory quarantine will be effective on all arriving passengers entering Ethiopia after 12:00 a.m. on March 23. They will be placed on mandatory quarantine at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel or Ghion Hotel (in the capital Addis Ababa) for 14 days at their own cost," the Ethiopian Minister of Health Lia Tadesse disclosed in a statement.
The Ethiopian health minister also stressed that diplomats "will be quarantined for 14 days at their respective embassies. Transit passengers with connecting flight will stay isolated at the Ethiopian Skylight Hotel until their connecting flight."
On Friday, the Ethiopian government had enacted stringent measures, including closing night clubs and bars, ceasing Ethiopian Airlines flights to 30 countries and partially releasing prisoners, as part of the latest efforts to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
The Ethiopian National Ministerial Committee against COVID-19, during its latest meeting with the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to assess the latest developments concerning the spread and containment of the COVID-19, passed various measures that include suspending Ethiopian Airlines flights to 30 countries, as well as releasing prisoners with "minor offenses and release dates that are near."
