HANOI, March 22 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam's Ministry of Health confirmed on Sunday night that 14 more people had tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the total cases in the country to 113.

All the 14 new cases are Vietnamese, with seven from the capital city of Hanoi, one from the northern Nam Dinh province, three from the southern Ho Chi Minh City, one from the southern Ba Ria-Vung Tau province and two from the southern An Giang province, according to the ministry.

Among these patients, 13 people entered Vietnam by air in March, four of whom were on a same flight from Britain to the southern city of Can Tho on Wednesday, and the other is the daughter of a nurse in Hanoi who has earlier been confirmed to be infected. The seven cases from Hanoi include four students returning from the United States and Europe and a lecturer at a university in Britain.

The 14 cases were reported after the health ministry confirmed five new infections on Sunday afternoon, meaning that Vietnam has recorded 19 new infections on Sunday, its biggest daily increase of confirmed cases so far.

A total of 17 patients in Vietnam have been discharged from hospital after recovery and no death from the disease has been reported. There are 645 suspected cases being quarantined and more than 52,000 being monitored in the country as of Sunday night.
