Myanmar parliament approves loans, fund for health ministry

NAY PYI TAW, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar parliament approved to get 100 million U.S. dollars of loan from the World Bank's International Development Association (IDA) and 10 million U.S. dollars of fund from Global Financial Facility for the Ministry of Health and Sports (MOHS) at the meeting on Tuesday.

"The loan and the Financial Facility's fund will be used continually to access to essential health services projects of MOHS which has three components such as to upgrade primary health care system, to establish capacity building and project management as well as to make emergency response to public health," deputy minister of MOHS Dr. Mya Lay Sein said at the meeting.

"A total of 19 townships including seven townships in Ayeyarwady Region and 12 townships in Shan State were initially selected for the project. But due to the security matters, the project will not be conducted in areas affected by long running conflicts. After receiving the approval, the fieldwork will be done first," he added.

The parliament representatives made the approval after having discussions regarding to loans and fund at the meetings held on March 19 and 20.
