German shares gain 5.73 pct at start of trading Tuesday

BERLIN, March 24 (Xinhua) -- After finishing below the 9,000-point mark on Monday, German stocks were off to a strong start on Tuesday, with the benchmark DAX index rising 500.91 points, or 5.73 percent, opening at 9,242.06 points.

The biggest winner among Germany's 30 largest listed companies at the start of trading on Tuesday was chipmaker and semiconductor manufacture Infineon, increasing by 11.55 percent, followed by insurance giant Allianz with 7.65 percent and technology company Siemens with 7.64 percent.

Shares of Beiersdorf increased by 2.43 percent. The German consumer goods company saw the smallest gains at the start of trading on Tuesday, followed by Germany's largest housing company Vonovia with 3.11 percent.

On Monday, the German government prohibited cancelling rental contracts from April 1 to June 30 because of outstanding rental payment.

The yield on German ten-year bonds went down slightly by 0.002 percentage points to minus 0.379 percent on Tuesday.

The euro was trading almost unchanged at 1.0746 U.S. dollars, increasing by 0.01 percent.
