BERLIN, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Germany's governing conservative union (CDU/CSU) gained 5 percentage points and climbed to 33.5 percent of votes of German citizens, according to the Insa opinion trend published by the German newspaper Bild on Tuesday.

The Insa survey showed the best result for the conservative union CDU/CSU since the German elections in 2017 and the highest increase the CDU/CSU had ever achieved in the course of one week.

"The overwhelming satisfaction of Germans with the government's crisis management in the corona pandemic gives the CDU/CSU the best survey result since the Bundestag elections," said Hermann Binkert, executive manager of Insa.

The Green party came in second but lost 3 percentage points compared to last week, reaching 20 percent, according to the survey which interviewed 2,070 citizens. The Social Democratic Party (SPD), which has long lost the status of a large people's party in Germany, got 15 percent of German voters favor.

The Left Party lost ground and reached 7 percent while the Alternative for Germany (AfD) lost 1 percentage point and reached 12 percent. The Free Democratic Party (FDP) remained at 6.5 percent, according to the survey.

"Especially the Bavarian State Primier Markus Soeder, Chancellor Angela Merkel and Health Minister Jens Spahn, in that order, enjoy the trust of the citizens", said Insa executive manager Binkert.

Bavaria had been the first German state to impose a state-wide limited curfew on its citizens. Although all German states have followed Bavaria's example after a telephone conference with Chancellor Merkel on Sunday, Soeder's decisive action seems to resonate well with Germans.
