KAMPALA, March 24 (Xinhua) -- Uganda on Tuesday received a consignment of medical equipment donated by China's Jack Ma in efforts to help the east African country fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
Chris Baryomunsi, Uganda's state minister for housing, said it was a great gesture by Jack Ma to donate masks, rapid test kits and other protective gears to help the country in dealing with the outbreak.
"The rapid test kits are really wonderful in giving immediate results for quick action. We would like to thank Jack Ma for this move," Baryomunsi said while appearing on state-owned Uganda Broadcasting Cooperation Television.
According to the ministry of health, the country received 100,000 masks, 20,089 test kits as well as face shields and other personal protective equipment.
The Chinese embassy here said in a tweet that Uganda and China together fight the war against COVID-19 to build a community of common health.
Jack Ma on Monday announced that each of the 54 African countries will receive medical equipments from him to help them deal with COVID-19.
Uganda has so far registered 9 cases of COVID-19.
