KABUL, March 25 (Xinhua) -- At least two attackers on the temple in Kabul have been killed and the exact number of casualties is still unknown, a spokesman for Interior Ministry Tareq Arian said.

According to the official, a group of militants attacked a temple in the Police District 1 at 07:45 a.m. local time on Wednesday. Security forces immediately rushed to the area and started to clean the temple from the insurgents.

Arian noted that many people from inside the temple had been rescued, adding that the operation may take time since the temple is located in the residential area.

However, Public Health Ministry spokesman Wahidullah Mayar has confirmed one dead body in talks with Xinhua, with 15 wounded having been taken to the hospital.

According to locals, the militants targeted a gathering of Sikh minority inside the temple.
