BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Brunei reported five new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the country's total number to 109.
According to Brunei's Ministry of Health, one patient is still in critical condition, requiring ventilator support, while three patients are under intensive care. The rest are in good shape.
The ministry stated that so far, a total of 1,211 individuals are undergoing quarantine; 655 people have completed the quarantine period, and 4,084 laboratory tests for COVID-19 have been conducted.
To contain the spread of COVID-19, all schools nationwide, including colleges, technical schools, vocational schools and religious schools will start home-based online learning on March 30, the day when the new school term begins, Brunei's Ministry of Education announced on Wednesday.
A 53-year-old local man became the first confirmed case for COVID-19 in Brunei on March 9 after returning to the country from Kuala Lumpur, who possibly contracted the virus there during religious mass gatherings from late February to early March, which were reportedly attended by about 16,000 people.
