JAKARTA, March 27 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government said the death toll of COVID-19 in the country climbed to 87 on Friday, the highest in Southeast Asia.
Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases jumped to 1,046 from 893 in 24 hours.
As many as 46 patients have recovered from the pneumonia-causing COVID-19, according to the government's spokesman for the all coronavirus-related matters Achmad Yurianto.
The Indonesian government is not imposing a lockdown policy to tackle the COVID-19 outbreak but conducting rapid tests in areas where cases are detected.
The government has turned the Wisma Atlet Kemayoran, the apartment towers in central Jakarta used to billet athletes competed in the 2018 Asian Games, into an emergency hospital intended to treat as many as 24,000 COVID-19 patients.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo said that two islands, the Sebaru island on the Java Sea in the northern part of Jakarta and the Galang island in the Riau Islands, will be used to quarantine and observe people infected with the virus from Saturday.
