ALGIERS, March 30 (Xinhua) -- Algeria on Monday reported four new deaths from the COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 35.

The four death cases are a 59-year-old man from the province of Bejaia, a 69-year-old man from Blida Province, as well as a 67-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman from the western province of Oran, said Djamel Fourar, head of the COVID-19 Detection and Follow-up Commission, in his daily press briefing.

Meanwhile, the total number of confirmed cases has risen to 584 in Algeria, of whom 37 have been cured, Fourar noted.

The Algerian authorities have expanded home quarantine to 11 provinces out of 48 as part of the measures to contain the spread of the outbreak.

In order to discourage the panic buying out of the coronavirus fears, Algerian Prime Minister Abdelaziz Djerad said during his visit to a hospital in Blida on Monday that there was no food or supply crisis in the North African country.

The government has taken "all necessary measures with a view to avoiding any shortage by ensuring a permanent and sufficient supply of markets with different agricultural and food products," he noted.

Blida is the most affected province by COVID-19 in Algeria.
