PHNOM PENH, March 31 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Tuesday confirmed two more cases of COVID-19 in northwest Siem Reap City, bringing the total number of the confirmed cases in the country to 109, according to a Ministry of Health (MoH) statement.

The new patients are a 39-year-old Cambodian mother and her 12-year-old son, who were tested positive for the virus by the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia, the statement said.

"The woman is the wife of a 40-year-old COVID-19-infected (Cambodian) man, who has been under quarantine for treatment at the Siem Reap provincial hospital," it said. "The man contracted the virus when he attended an Islamic religious ceremony in Malaysia (at the end of February)."

The woman and her son have also been placed in isolation rooms for treatment at the Siem Reap provincial hospital, it added.

According to the statement, the samples of the woman's two other children and father-in-law were also taken for lab tests and the results indicated that they were negative for the virus.

Cambodia has recorded a total of 109 confirmed cases of the virus to date, the statement said, adding that 23 of them have recovered.
